WordPress Theme - Chronicles
Written by Jai on February 28, 2008 – 1:55 pm - 27,087 viewsGet ready to welcome another free WordPress theme from Blog Oh! Blog. The WordPress theme is called Chronicles. In the literary sense, chronicle is a written record of events presented in order of time, and updated regularly over a prolonged period. This holds true for this theme as well, first, because its a blogging theme and second, because this theme will be revised regularly.
This is a dark-brown colored, fully validated, widget-ready, 3-column theme with rounded edges all around it. I am sure you’ll like the theme and of course, any feedback is appreciated.

Written by Jai on February 25, 2008 – 9:44 am - 4,469 views
In the modern Internet World, the increasing number of advertisements and the never ending list of ad-networks are making the Internet users’ experience worse than ever. How to get rid of them? Is there a way? I am sure people are using a lot of ad blockers, but today I am not sharing any ad blocking techniques but will share the types of annoying ads present on the Internet.
Audible Ads
The most offensive ad ever made is the one that plays audio on your personal computer without warning. The one thing I hate is when I open a website and it bursts my speakers when I am working in the night. Both the advertiser and the website publisher should be totally blamed for this. Most of the online advertising companies say that one out of ten video advertisers want audio when you roll your pointer over the ads.
Flash Animated Ads
I know that the revenue brought in by the advertisers is important but what about the irritating Flash based ads? Is there anything that can be done to remove these ads? The worst thing is that the advertisers make it really difficult to close these floating ads until they are completely animated. They always float into what we read and you also have to wait until they stop animating before you can close them.
Page Takeover Ads
How much more annoying can online advertising be? You just cannot escape from popular page takeover ads like the banner ads that stretch into full- page screens when you point the cursor at them and they would not stop until you move your mouse away.

Written by Jai on February 22, 2008 – 10:11 am - 3,414 views

Today I will be reviewing TNX.net which helps you in buying and selling links on other websites. This service is helpful for both publishers as well as the advertisers. The service provides TNX points which can be used to advertise your websites or you can also sell these points.
As a website publisher you will be able to sell links not just on the main page but on all the pages of your website. On top of that, you get a chance to choose between thousands of advertisers registered with their service. TNX deducts a commission of 12.5% on every transaction that you make, which according to me is a reasonable amount. The prices for links are calculated automatically based on factors like link popularity, PR and the number of external links. The code can be easily installed on your website which is used to display the advertisers’ link.

Written by Jai on February 20, 2008 – 11:56 am - 4,630 views
Here comes a new way to make money online! Now you can place YPN (Yahoo Publisher Network) ads in Adobe PDF files which will help you meet your PPC targets. The service is known as “Ads for Adobe PDF” and you earn money whenever your readers click on an ad.
This service lets you place upto five ads to the right of your document which does not obscure the content of your PDF files. Unfortunately, this service is only available for U.S. based PDF publishers just like the YPN restriction. When applying for the program, you will have to give details about the number of PDF files that will contain the ads. In order to make your PDF files ad-enabled, you have to login to Adobe’s website and upload your PDF files. After a few minutes you will receive the PDF file back as an e-mail attachment ready to display Yahoo ads.

Written by Jai on February 17, 2008 – 2:15 pm - 8,811 views1. Create a stunning 3D push button…
Nowadays, we can see 3d push buttons nearly everywhere. Most of them are achieved via JavaScript. The main problem of using these scripts is that there are greater chances that they might get blocked by the browser. And with the advent of many ad blockers it has become a serious drawback. In this situation, the CSS comes to rescue. Thought we can’t create 3d push buttons as professional as created by using JavaScript, we can create a basic 3d push button with the help of CSS.
The main CSS commands you’ll need are:
a.pushbut {color:#26a; display:block; border:1px solid; border-color:#aaa #000 #000 #aaa; text-decoration:none; width:8em; text-align:center; height:2em; line-height:2em; background:#fc0; font-weight:bold }a.pushbut:hover { color:#26a; background:#ffd633; position:relative; top:1px; left:1px; border-color:#000 #aaa #aaa #000 }
^^These must be within <style> tag.
Off course, you can change any settings you want like back color, alignment etc.
Now to create a button, we must specify the class object as push but within the <BODY> tag…that’s all
Ex:
<p><a href=”http://www.blogohblog.com/” onclick=”return false” onkeypress=”return false” title=”visit my blog” class=”pushbut”>Visit blogohblog</a></p>

Written by Jai on February 12, 2008 – 11:22 am - 3,633 views

“People hate waiting”. If your website is not loading within 4-5 seconds, you are likely to lose a lot of visitors. Normally we assume that people are seeing our blog at the same speed as we are. It is hard to pinpoint the exact culprit that is slowing down your web page. As there are many different elements like CSS, JavaScript, Images, Flash, Frames etc. which take time in loading.
There are a number of surfers who have modems less than 56K. Everyone does not have Cable Modem, ISDN or T1 connection to the internet. Hence, it is very important for a web designer to see that his/her sites load as fast as possible.
When you view your web page, your content loads in a specific order. Images and Media are the main bandwidth hogs and take a lot of time in loading. I would suggest you to remove all forms of multimedia embedded in your front page of website except for images. You can put a background song on your web page, but normally these sound files capture a lot of bandwidth, especially if it is a .wav file. Video files should be avoided unless there is a need and keep the file sizes small. But still try and use such files in other pages of your website because as I said “People hate waiting”.

Written by Jai on February 9, 2008 – 6:08 am - 5,630 views
Bloggers who are interested in building high traffic to their blog and maintaining a successful blog should pay particular attention to Search Engine Optimization techniques which can help them improve the search engine rankings of their blogs. All search engines employ some type of algorithm that brings up the resulting links when a user searches for something. No, all search engines don’t use the same algorithm. But that’s not what this discussion is all about. I’m sure all of you are interested in getting your website/blog listed in the topmost search results. Am I not ? Well, listed below are 5 simple tweaks that can greatly influence your ranking in the search results.
1. Keyword Optimization -:
The use of relevant keywords in blog posts is one of the most common and also one of the simplest ways to optimize search engine ranking. It will increase your ranking if you use commonly searched words like for example: If you have a gardening site, you might want to use the word “Home gardening” or maybe even “House-keeping” more in your posts. As a result, when people actually type those phrases in the search box, your website is shown earlier because of the use of it in your web page is higher than the rest.
TIP : Don’t ever overdo it.
2. Get Link Love -:
Many search engines (almost all) rank your site on basis of the number of back links that lead to your site. Now basically you could do link-exchange. But search engines will rank you even higher if you get one-way links. It’s simple: The more back links one has, the more earlier is his page displayed in the search results.
TIP: Try and get as many as One-way links . It’s always more effective than link exchange.

Written by Jai on February 5, 2008 – 12:59 pm - 5,594 views
While building a website or a blog, one always considers using the best design, layout and content. But today, instead of discussing these aspects of web development, I’ll be sharing the importance of website feedback which can act like steroids for your website or it can also be used as user-generated content. For most websites, a feedback form seems to be hidden away somewhere on the last page of a developer’s list of site requirements. Forcing visitors to navigate their way through many pages just to locate that feedback form which results in frustration and reduces interest.
Feedback from your website can also act as free and original content for which you do not have to pay anyone. Search engines like Google love unique content. If you miss the opportunity for user feedback, it’s a missed opportunity for you to rank high in the eyes of search engine spiders. You can benefit by enabling most user feedback to be out on the front of your website, e.g. comments, reviews, opinions etc. You can convert feedback into a promotion device or funnel it out into site enhancements.
