  • Detailed help on every screen
  • A New theme that replaces the default theme called TwentyTen (2010) with lots of features
  • Define your own Custom Backgrounds/Headers
  • Custom Menu system to hand craft your navigation system
  • Custom Post types to create a CMS type capability
  • Inbuilt URL Shortening service
  • WordPress + WPMU combined to manage multiple blogs

Here is a video showing the changes that have been made (1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements to be precise)

Has anyone had problems updating from the latest 2.x branch? I’ve got a blog that I want to move over to a new domain and upgrade at the same time, but if there’s a chance I can loose everthing then I’ll just keep patching instead.

  2. Eddie Gear says:

Thanks for sharing the updates. I’ve just upgraded and now I know wht the new version comes with.

  3. Hippy Hop says:

I might consider upgrading to 3.0 after I had checked all my plugins to be working fine with the the new version. I would like others to test it first for me. I just don’t have time to troubleshoot in case problem arises. Anyway my blog is working fine with the current version.

I LOVE the NEW 3.0!!! We have over 65 blogs and ALL of them run the WP.

nice post, where to find more information?

  6. Tinh says:

I have just upgraded to WP 3.0.1 and everything seems fine but there are a lot of plugins that need to be upgraded and some drop-in too

  7. Nutaryuk says:

Guys, don’t be affraid to up grade your WP as long as you backup your WP first deactivate all your plugin before up grade. Everything is alright after I up grade my WP.

.I don’t know How to get the password field on sign-up form.My visitors still need to wait for confirmation mail and copy the password from there.
Does any body have Idea to implement this?

Yes, WordPress 3.0 is a great upgrade. But I also highly recommend backing up your site before proceeding with the upgrade. Several plugins are incompatible with WordPress 3.0 and they are still working out those bugs. However, I would still upgrade, just be prepared to do some repairs afterward.

If you run into any problems, feel free to contact me and we can help out.

I’ve updated all of the blogs I personally run and the blogs of several clients – no problems at all except for one plugin that had to be deactivated and reactivated again.

I always run a full backup of the database and wp-content before I upgrade just in case anything goes wrong – the entire blog can be easily restored. Plus, you can’t really have too many backups.

I have had my run ins of 3.0. I also use BP with many of my sites. One of the downfalls of bulk extraction & activation is if you have a fatal error like I’ve had, you often can’t directly pinpoint which plugin caused the fatal error & crash of your site. I am glad to see the new changes in 3.0 because they are awesome. I did learn a few new things from your post. Thanks . BTW – I use one of your themes on my current site.

    Thanks,

“Bulk Updates of plugins and WordPress in one place”

This was already in WP under the Tools menu – ever since automatic upgrade for the wordpress version!

    Hi,
This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post.
    Thanks!

  14. Mike says:

I knew that would happen! I finally got round to upgrading to 2.9 and then 3.0 comes out. The automatic update wasn’t working for me so took a far bit of time deleting the old files and uploading the new ones as was short on server space.

  15. I go back and forth between Blogspot and WordPress. Just went back to blogspot with their new updates… now do I have to go back to WP? Guh….

  16. Marge Mellor says:

I updated and it went off without a hitch. Haven’t really noticed any major changes that affect my blogging though.

  17. I’m kind of scarred to try it. I’ve got like 400 posts and don’t want to lose them. Is this safe?

  18. lakridserne says:

My blog is updated to WordPress 3.0… :)

  19. Junthit lee says:

Usually im waiting a few weeks before upgrade my wordpress, just to make sure my lovely plugins will work properly..

    • Lucas says:

That’s allways a good idea, because I got thrown out into the super new maintenance mode because the worpress update process failed somewhere with the database. If anyone has the same trouble, just move the invisible .maintenance file from the WordPress home directory to another place and reload the page to get access again.
