First off, this site is amazing. Second, I was looking to change the background color on the right sidebar of the Blue Box theme. I figure I have to change some code in this section:

#sidebar{width:230px;float:right;margin:5px;padding:0;}
.rsidebar{width:210px;color:#666;(sidebar text)margin:0 auto;padding:0 5px;}
.rsidebar h2{font-size:14px(sidebar headers);border-bottom:dashed 1px #ccc;margin:0 7px 3px;padding:3px 0;}
.rsidebar ul{list-style-type:none;margin:0;padding:0;}
.rsidebar ul li{list-style-type:none;margin:0 0 10px;padding:0;}
.rsidebar ul li ul{list-style-type:square;margin:0;padding:0 3px;}
.rsidebar ul li ul li{list-style-type:none;background:transparent url (images/b.gif) no-repeat 0 4px;border:0;margin:0;padding:0 0 2px 14px;}

I messed around a little bit with the above code and was able to change the background of some of the sidebar (certain widget's backgrounds) but not the whole sidebar. Any ideas? Thank you

Open up your style.css in the theme folder. Look for the #searchform identifier. Now remove float:left from this and save the file. Done :)

I am trying to work out why my search widget is not laying out properly in the sidebar. When I add any other widget below the search widget, that widget ends up bing placed (at least patially) to the right of the search widget, rather than below it. There also seems to be no dashed horizontal rule between the two. Perhaps there is a bit of code missing from the end of the search widgets html? any thoughts?

Here is the page I am working on. I'll leave it active for a bit and check it with browsers other than Firefox, but I can't leave it live with wonky formatting for too long.

http://maps.commons.yale.edu/

Just checked in other browsers:
IE = looks fine, though there is still no dashed HR separating the search widget as with other widgets.
Safari = search button is crowded underneath the hit counter which is implemented through the text widget. Again, no HR, above or below.

I figured out a bit about the problem, and what is on the site is currently there to show the problem. I don't know the specific cause, but it affects the widget placed under the Search widget (in this example, the Archives widget). Any ones above are unaffected.

There are two search bars because I found a slight workaround to the problem earlier. I just did not use the default wordpress search widget. Instead, I moved the code for the search bar out of rsidebar.php and moved it into sidebar.php, forcing it to display even with a widgetized sidebar enabled. After moving it though, I also added a line break.

Still, I was wondering if there are any other potential ways to fix this.

EDIT: This issue seems to occur in Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer. Instead, for Internet Explorer, the problem instead is that the search button clashes with the top of the next widget.

Hello. I have looked around this forum and seen that this problem has been mentioned before. However, there was no given solution to the problem.

This problem applies to the Blue Box theme.

It is to my understanding that if I activate widgets, then the original sidebar is not displayed and instead the widgets that I activated are. However, the problem that I'm having is that instead of lining the widgets up vertically on the sidebar, they are being lined up to the right. Every widget after the first one is basically pushed out of the sidebar, meaning I don't even see it there.

Is there a way to make it so that the widgets are lined up vertically like the original sidebar?

Thanks.

Hi there,

I am using the blue box theme at www.commonwaters.net and I would like to delete the sidebar on my "links" page.

From the Blue Box themes folder, I copied the page.php file and renamed it page_no_sidebar.php. In the latter I deleted
<?php get_sidebar(); ?>
.

I then replaced that string in page.php with the following:

<?php if (is_page('links') ):
// we're in the links page, and using a modified template ?>
<?php include ('page_no_sidebar.php'); ?>>
<?php } elseif (is_page() ):
// we're using the default template ?>
<?php include ('sidebar.php'); ?>>
<?php endif; // end the if, no templates for other pages ?>

Where have I gone wrong? I am a newbie so thank you for your help!

I am using Blue Box and am wondering how to only show parent pages in the header instead of all my pages.

Thanks!!!

That is subtle. Earlier I went through all the .gifs, and saw that one, but with a quick look I didn't notice there were actually two colors making up the one pixel line; thinking it was maybe a spacer. But I see and understand now.

BTW, speaking of subtle, that's what I like about the visual design of the page - very clean with all the elements working together nicely.

Best - Brad

Hello BradE,

That color is not HTML color but an image that has been tiled vertically on the y-axis on a DIV. Try to look for the image called mainbck.gif in the images folder of your theme.

You can replace that image with your own.

Hi...

Just found your Blue Box theme - it's great.

I'd like to change the background color of the right sidebar from light blue to another color. I've searched and tweaked just about everything in the CSS (which I'm new to) and other files, but nothing seems to change.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanx - Brad

First off, there are some great themes here! I really like Blue Box but I have two questions.

1- The sidebar has a blank spot at the top, which I imagine is for ads. As I'm not going to put ads there for a while, what can I edit to move the content of the sidebar up? i.e. the search with no widgets, or the first widget if those are selected?

2- Speaking of widgets, when I activate the default widgets, and list the search then archives then rss etc, the spacing is lining them up and shifting the content around. Is there a fix for this or something I am missing?

Thanks!

Hi Willy,

Your topic was wiped out as I was moving to VPS hosting and you posted between the time when backup was already taken. :)

Btw, Blue box on the top is an image. You can make your own image using your blog title and replace that file.

I'm using the BlueBox WP theme (like it!) but "Blue Box" appears in the header, where I assume my blog title should be. What am I doing wrong?

(BTW: I posted this question last night but somehow both the question and my userID were wiped out and I had to re-register and re-post.)
