BobV2 home page/2nd page issues

    Hi Jai

    Further to my recent chat with you, I can confirm there are multiple sites using the blogohblog theme that exhibit the same problem I described to you.

    The problem:
    The FIRST post on the home page is repeated in full as the first post on the 2nd page... i.e. when you click on more entries at the bottom of the home page. It doesn't make sense, seeing this is a "more" page, to repeat the most recent post and can only serve to confuse anybody that starts to dig a bit deepere into your site... if they see the same post again at the top, they might think you have not much to offer :)

    The URLs where you can see this happening include:
    http://thaslayer.com/page/2/
    http://www.submityourcontest.com/page/2/
    and my site at
    http://perpetualgiveaway.com/page/2/ and I adjusted the number of posts to show it also happens on pages 3 and 4 as well...

    Have you got any idea how this could be fixed please? In it's current state it will only serve to make the site look dodgy :)

    Well, the page is not even linked from your home page so how does it matter ?

    Then what is that funny little link right down the BOTTOM of the home page doing?

    Specifically the:
    « Previous Offers
    bit...

    Excuse the sarcasm....

    Sorry - but it IS linked from the bottom of the home pages on each site that I showed above! Same as the "older entries" link you have at the bottom of your home page, and possibly on the bottom of every other wordpress blog in the world.

    It matters because visitors WILL use it to find older posts, and this repetition of an earlier post shouldn't happen.

    So how do we go about ensuring the full post shown on these pages is NOT the most recent one?

    OK... I worked it out - and considering I have next to NO php knowledge...

    Put this if statement around the first post on the index.php page:

    <?php /* If this is the 2nd+ page */ if (!is_paged() ) { ?>

<h2><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark"
title="Permanent Link to <?php the_title(); ?>">
<?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>

etc... rest of first post code

<?php } ?>

    So the if statement says... if this is NOT a paged page - i.e. the home page, then show the full version of the first post.

    If the page being displayed is "paged", then ignore that bit of code... This refers to an archive or the main page being split up over several pages.

    So now I see only the double column of posts on pages 2, 3 etc... and have removed some other bits that I didn't want to appear on that page either...
