Jai does your hostgator account offer you ADDON domains or just subdomains? When I tried them I could not get addons to work and had to move. I went to Flexihostings and havent had any problems but them I’m just a new blogger and not getting 120000 hits on a single post either.

I’m on Hostgator shared too and the only time my sites ever go down is when I run too many processes (normally IMAP). I found that I don’t have much control over the server, but 24/7 support is fantastic.

What I love are host companies who call themselves “business solution” hosts just so they can charge 3 times more for a year’s hosting without actually giving the customer more for their money.

First off, I must say I’m horrified with the way the hosting rep conducted himself in that chat sesstion. If my provider treated me like that, I would SUE him, never mind just quit the service.
And as far as affiliating with Hoatgator - the more, the merrier. I see no problem with affiliate links like that. I would probably do the same, if I were in your position, Jai.

just when i thought I seen everyting
along come something like this
in a way this is a two sides of a coin issue
i think if you cant work it out with them
send an email to the top management for an explanation
a reputable company too is run by humans
n there could be a miscommunication
anything can be of a reason
server issues can be either the hardware or the configuration
setting or wrong packages offered
however having said that as long as you are happy
on this issue then move forward
let the case closes
end of the day it is your satisfaction that counts !

I am with hostgator baby plan since july last year.. I really satisfied with their support & service..
I have over 50 domain hosted on same account. No big problem.. Uptime really fantastic.. They deserve it..

Jai, two of my bloggers friend got hit by the so called “ip migration” they performed. Their blogs is down for 2-3 days. That sucks,
I am an existing Shinjiru’s customer too for 3 months. Luckily, I am not affected by the ip migration cause I had moved out earlier.
I am now happily with ServerFreak - http://www.web-hosting.net.my and they are good. No downtime till now. Affordable. No overselling. They rocks,

I used hostgator with no problems…then i decided i wanted to try ixwebhosting which offered 8 unique ip addresses with the account so i could create similar sites and link to each other. Well to my suprise all the sites now load slower. I am thinking of putting the larger sites back on hostgator. Hostgator really is a great webhost and they do have in the control panel a feature called fantastico which makes installing a forum, shopping cart, or blogs a push button breeze.

Me: ok..what’s up?
Host rep: You have a domain xxxxx com hosted with us right?
Me: Yep…
Host rep: Well, the forum script has caused processor overloading, we’ll have to temporarily shut it down.
Me: (Sigh….) what’s your advice?
Host rep: You need to move to Semi-D server…
Me:Right.. I’ll think it over, please send me an email.
Host: We’re sending it now.
Me: Ok.. bye.
Host rep: Bye.
Actually it was my friend’s site running on shared Windows server. The forum used webwizguide.com asp scripts and I use mySql for its database. Just renewed the hosting last November, to move-out means my friend will lose half year hosting fees.
I’ve another forum (but have sold it to a friend) using the same script but hosted with webserver com my and has been running for more than four years until today with no problem at all.
In comparison the forum with webserver com my has more than 3k members while the earlier only has less than 1k members.
Is is the script, server or database which causes the problem? Any idea?
Just do some searching at google… wah… all semi-D servers cost more than RM250/month… what can I say? Have to tell my friend about this and I’m sure this will blow his head off.
Just did some more searching and bumped to this blog. While writing on this blog… I remembered something.
Ya, last week my site mbakl which was also hosted with this host went into problems - lost its php & gd library functions, my site was unable to run php for more than 3 hours. In fact the whole server were affected.
And the not so good side of the host is they have removed the announcement of this problem which was posted on their site news/announcement earlier. Hiding something?
I’m thinking of moving back to bluehost and may be should also try hostgator - after all only an extra of RM100 ($30) - at least now I can avoid shinjiru - thanks Jai for the info.

Just to give a different point of view, I’ve had a dedicated server with Shinjiru for some time and I’ve found them to be excellent, and the support has always been prompt and courteous. Hostgator may be good too (and they have a good affiliate program ;-)), but I think in general Shinjiru have a good reputation. Maybe you could have gone a bit easier on the support guy, as mentioned above, respect begets respect…

shin has a support newsletter that you could read of the migration of ip’s. but you have to subscribe to it manually.
Antoher thing is for sure though shinjiru really sux, i have two sites runnign on shared, and they just made their ‘annual” server maintainence and sites were down from friday to tuesday !! i lost around 3000$ because of this..
They restored erroneously and i had to submit tickets over tickets and the message boards are still not working.
There is a smaller hoster in malaysia; internet-webhosting dot something. i have also some sites with them and they seem much more flexible and able to deal wtih issues. Their tech support is incredible, they have this guy ADI and seems he is 24 hours online. Whenever i had the smallest tech trouble the issue was resolved within and hour or so. i will consider moving totally to them now..

also had MANY issues in the past with shin, there was not a single month in the past when one of the sites was not down and i had to contact them.
The best thing was when they hosted my site on their USA location and one day the server HD got broken and they DID NOT HAD AANNYY BACKUPS because they said these were broken aswell !!! thats ridiulous. They literally said “hey, rememeber its hardware failure, not our mistake.” by email, still have them.
How can you be such an incompetent circus to store the backup disks in the SAME server !!!??
when they finally fixed it after a week the USA sever was suddenly php and mysql 4 ! not 5 as the site was made for it.. As i iquired they said they could or won’t upgrae the server..
ithey switched me back to malysia. With the old backups i had neede to pay 200$ to my webdesign to adjust the mysql database to be compatible…
Ok, thats most of it.. i really wrote myself into a rage, excuse me but it really reminded me on how fu@#$ing incompetent this company is !!!

That old host must really have sucked very much, about hostgator, it really that good? I’m wondering about it and kinda curious now as well, since all people nowadays around me are recommending it to me, don’t they over sell or something?
I have all of my sites hosted on a 3.33 US Dollar plan on computinghost.com, yes, I mean all of them, and I have no problems there, and I’ve come to love the costumer support, as I am always contacting them when I don’t know something; they always teach me, and know me already.
Now big question is, should I also switch to hostgator? Doesn’t it has any downtime or so?
A couple of months back, I remember people saying NEGATIVE comments about them; that they are overs elllers and so.

The best way would be to transfer one of your sites for a test to hostgator and check them out for 6 month or so on speed, uptime and service. 3.33 US sounds very good though, bandwith is limited, but you may not need that much anyway. That hoster is also in india, which is good for sensitive businesses..
i finally choose internet-webhosting (whish is also a malaysia company) for hosting, and name.com for registrations. If you do make money off your sites then dont host them all on the same server, because if there is maintainence or hd crash, they will be all down
I dont yet personally host on hostgator yet so i cannot share speed info or reliance yet. cheers..

Shinjiru is the WORST at customer service. my site has been down for days and no one would contact me back. Finally I get a response saying I never contacted them. Their technical support is non existant!
Our site goes down on a weekly basis, again, with NO response from customer support.
I have been trying to pay my invoice for over a week, and they have not picked up the money from western union, despite many emails telling them that I paid.
Again, my site is STILL down

I AGREE WITH ALL.. SHINJIRU.COM IS THE MOST STUPID HOSTING IN THE WORLD.. THEY SPENT 45 DAYS TO SETUP MY VPS AND UNTILL NOW STILL PROBLEM.
I AM USING PHP4 FOR 5 YEARS. BUT TODAY AFTER THEY FAIL TO SETTLE MY MYSQL CONNECT ERROR, THEY TELL ME PHP 4 DID NOT SUPPORT MYSQL EXTENSION.. AND ASKING ME TO UPGRADE TO PHP5 MUAHAHAHAHAH
SIMPLY MAKE MISTAKE BY REINSTALL MY VPS WITH PHP5 FOR 3 TIMES.. AS I MENTION MY MOST IMPORTANT REQIREMENT IS PHP4.
UPTIME OF MY SERVER IS 5% A MONTH. 1-2 HOURS OK THEN DOWN AGAIN…
BEFORE THIS I HOST WITH EUKHOST.COM IN UK AND SATISFIED WITH THEIR SUPPORT FOR 101%.. VERY FAST SUPPORT, HOST WITH THEM FOR 2 YEARS UNTIL I NEED SERVER IN MALAYSIA.

I’ve had Shinjiru for almost 2 years with no problems. Their customer support always was very quick, polite, and top notch.
They specialize in sites that want to keep out of the reach of retarded Americans who feel like suing at the drop of a hat, and hosts that pull your account the minute some moron complains about content. Trying to compare a VPS with shared hosting is like comparing a Chevy to a BMW. If you didn’t realize you were buying far more service than you needed shame on you. They didn’t rip you off, you were just ignorant on what your needs were. You screwed up, move on. They have a shared hosting plan for $59 a year which would be comparable to what you have now.
Had you approached me with that attitude of yours as you did Shinjiru, I would have told you to piss up a rope.

Ok let make it this way…Ok la I ll give you guys until year 2010 to setup my server with php4 and hope that i will not see blank page again..hehehe…thats about 1 and a half year to setup the server. in a meanwhile, you can always tell me my server is fine..and i wont be mad if its working for only 2-3 minutes or if i still see blank page… you guys are so funny..

EVERY FUCKING WEEK THEY HAVE TONS of problems with their servers! and this is just the current posting that reaches a few days back ! Either these guys are somewhere in the malaysian rainforest and hammering coconuts to submit bytes to the civilization, or they are complete incompetent idiots !
When they did their yearly “server hardening” (sounds great right?) sometime in feb, march or april i think, my both websites were DOWN FOR 1 WEEK ! When they restored the sites they fuckd up the sql databases and it took messages en masse to have it fixed.
Now one asshole come out again and say this is a unreasonable smear campaign !
The only thing is that this is also my mistake and i shoudl kick myself cause i am too lazy to pull my domains to another hoster…

I am having the same problem like Jai. Those retards don’t know how to maintain/configure their server. Still using the lame ass 32 bits setup on the Linux box. I signed up with their service and then got forced to shift to VPS after 2 months due to my traffic from 1~50 up to average 600 unique per day. Another thing they like to shift your a/c here and there from one box to another which leads to even worse performance server compared to the initial setup.
Then I shifted to bluehost.com shared package and the site is up with 100% uptime till to date. Never got any lag, datacenter problem, power failure and all those bull shits.

Yeah, I must agree with the Shinjiru suckiness. Hosted there for two years, and every week I had downtime. In the end they shut down my servers with no warning, and refused to give me a refund (had just payed for 3 months).
Shinjiru must die! Do NOT host there.

FYI..the reason that Shinjiru shut down FSS..The Free Speech Store (http://freespeechstore.com) was not because we are spammers, because we are not. It is because we sued a dishonest Blocklist, ahbl.org (run by a convicted felon, Brian Bruns, for computers crimes..hacking). He blocked Shinjiru’s entire IP range for our dedicated server and Shinjiru shut us down instead of researching the allegation. Thusly, succumbing to the the felon, extortionist, and PUNK Bruns & his partner in crime, Andrew Kirch (trelane.net). Shinjiru is nothing more than a band of cowards with no business ethics, basically, spineless WEASELS!! Not only that, the CROOKS kept our money and did not allow us to transfer our database out of their data centers. Nice folks, huh? Now, every opportunity I get to worn people about these SLIMEBALLS, I do it. Shinjiru, clearly sucks! They now rue the day that they did not research this issue! Sales are down at Shinjiru…GREAT NEWS! Shinjiru will not get up for air…BRAVO FSS!
