Shinjiru Hosting Sucks – Gets Eaten by Hostgator for Real!
A while back, I had posted news about server troubles and this website slowing down for two full days. During that time, I contacted Shinjiru Hosting company (I had them as my host because Bob was already hosting this website with Shinjiru). The tech support really sucks at Shinjiru because they literally forced me to switch to their VPS hosting by saying that my site had grown too big (that was not really the case which I found out later). I did that and guess what, the very next day they declared that I must switch to their level II VPS hosting which was even costlier. So, I did that. End of story.
To my surprise, I would never have found out how Shinjiru was ripping me off, if I hadn’t tried Hostgator to host my website two weeks back. Their shared hosting is far far better than Shinjiru’s VPS hosting (supposed to be level II of some sort). One of the posts on this website even got stumbled a lot during the last one week but there was absolutely no slowdown. Cheers to Hostgator!
What makes this episode even more entertaining is the following piece of chat today with their support coordinator who goes by the e-mail : traxport [at] msn [dot] com. Just observe how calm they are, even when they totally suck at hosting.

So, all of you who still are on Shinjiru hosting, beware! Switch to a better host like Hostgator while you still have time.
I AGREE WITH ALL.. SHINJIRU.COM IS THE MOST STUPID HOSTING IN THE WORLD.. THEY SPENT 45 DAYS TO SETUP MY VPS AND UNTILL NOW STILL PROBLEM.
I AM USING PHP4 FOR 5 YEARS. BUT TODAY AFTER THEY FAIL TO SETTLE MY MYSQL CONNECT ERROR, THEY TELL ME PHP 4 DID NOT SUPPORT MYSQL EXTENSION.. AND ASKING ME TO UPGRADE TO PHP5 MUAHAHAHAHAH
SIMPLY MAKE MISTAKE BY REINSTALL MY VPS WITH PHP5 FOR 3 TIMES.. AS I MENTION MY MOST IMPORTANT REQIREMENT IS PHP4.
UPTIME OF MY SERVER IS 5% A MONTH. 1-2 HOURS OK THEN DOWN AGAIN…
BEFORE THIS I HOST WITH EUKHOST.COM IN UK AND SATISFIED WITH THEIR SUPPORT FOR 101%.. VERY FAST SUPPORT, HOST WITH THEM FOR 2 YEARS UNTIL I NEED SERVER IN MALAYSIA.
Shinjiru is the WORST at customer service. my site has been down for days and no one would contact me back. Finally I get a response saying I never contacted them. Their technical support is non existant!
Our site goes down on a weekly basis, again, with NO response from customer support.
I have been trying to pay my invoice for over a week, and they have not picked up the money from western union, despite many emails telling them that I paid.
Again, my site is STILL down
The best way would be to transfer one of your sites for a test to hostgator and check them out for 6 month or so on speed, uptime and service. 3.33 US sounds very good though, bandwith is limited, but you may not need that much anyway. That hoster is also in india, which is good for sensitive businesses..
i finally choose internet-webhosting (whish is also a malaysia company) for hosting, and name.com for registrations. If you do make money off your sites then dont host them all on the same server, because if there is maintainence or hd crash, they will be all down
I dont yet personally host on hostgator yet so i cannot share speed info or reliance yet. cheers..
That old host must really have sucked very much, about hostgator, it really that good? I’m wondering about it and kinda curious now as well, since all people nowadays around me are recommending it to me, don’t they over sell or something?
I have all of my sites hosted on a 3.33 US Dollar plan on computinghost.com, yes, I mean all of them, and I have no problems there, and I’ve come to love the costumer support, as I am always contacting them when I don’t know something; they always teach me, and know me already.
Now big question is, should I also switch to hostgator? Doesn’t it has any downtime or so?
A couple of months back, I remember people saying NEGATIVE comments about them; that they are overs elllers and so.
also had MANY issues in the past with shin, there was not a single month in the past when one of the sites was not down and i had to contact them.
The best thing was when they hosted my site on their USA location and one day the server HD got broken and they DID NOT HAD AANNYY BACKUPS because they said these were broken aswell !!! thats ridiulous. They literally said “hey, rememeber its hardware failure, not our mistake.” by email, still have them.
How can you be such an incompetent circus to store the backup disks in the SAME server !!!??
when they finally fixed it after a week the USA sever was suddenly php and mysql 4 ! not 5 as the site was made for it.. As i iquired they said they could or won’t upgrae the server..
ithey switched me back to malysia. With the old backups i had neede to pay 200$ to my webdesign to adjust the mysql database to be compatible…
Ok, thats most of it.. i really wrote myself into a rage, excuse me but it really reminded me on how fu@#$ing incompetent this company is !!!
shin has a support newsletter that you could read of the migration of ip’s. but you have to subscribe to it manually.
Antoher thing is for sure though shinjiru really sux, i have two sites runnign on shared, and they just made their ‘annual” server maintainence and sites were down from friday to tuesday !! i lost around 3000$ because of this..
They restored erroneously and i had to submit tickets over tickets and the message boards are still not working.
There is a smaller hoster in malaysia; internet-webhosting dot something. i have also some sites with them and they seem much more flexible and able to deal wtih issues. Their tech support is incredible, they have this guy ADI and seems he is 24 hours online. Whenever i had the smallest tech trouble the issue was resolved within and hour or so. i will consider moving totally to them now..
Just to give a different point of view, I’ve had a dedicated server with Shinjiru for some time and I’ve found them to be excellent, and the support has always been prompt and courteous. Hostgator may be good too (and they have a good affiliate program
), but I think in general Shinjiru have a good reputation. Maybe you could have gone a bit easier on the support guy, as mentioned above, respect begets respect…

Actually it was my friend’s site running on shared Windows server. The forum used webwizguide.com asp scripts and I use mySql for its database. Just renewed the hosting last November, to move-out means my friend will lose half year hosting fees.
I’ve another forum (but have sold it to a friend) using the same script but hosted with webserver com my and has been running for more than four years until today with no problem at all.
In comparison the forum with webserver com my has more than 3k members while the earlier only has less than 1k members.
Is is the script, server or database which causes the problem? Any idea?
Just do some searching at google… wah… all semi-D servers cost more than RM250/month… what can I say? Have to tell my friend about this and I’m sure this will blow his head off.
Just did some more searching and bumped to this blog. While writing on this blog… I remembered something.
Ya, last week my site mbakl which was also hosted with this host went into problems – lost its php & gd library functions, my site was unable to run php for more than 3 hours. In fact the whole server were affected.
And the not so good side of the host is they have removed the announcement of this problem which was posted on their site news/announcement earlier. Hiding something?
I’m thinking of moving back to bluehost and may be should also try hostgator – after all only an extra of RM100 ($30) – at least now I can avoid shinjiru – thanks Jai for the info.
