The World of Annoying Ads

Annoying Advertisements

In the modern Internet World, the increasing number of advertisements and the never ending list of ad-networks are making the Internet users’ experience worse than ever. How to get rid of them? Is there a way? I am sure people are using a lot of ad blockers, but today I am not sharing any ad blocking techniques but will share the types of annoying ads present on the Internet.

Audible Ads

The most offensive ad ever made is the one that plays audio on your personal computer without warning. The one thing I hate is when I open a website and it bursts my speakers when I am working in the night. Both the advertiser and the website publisher should be totally blamed for this. Most of the online advertising companies say that one out of ten video advertisers want audio when you roll your pointer over the ads.

Flash Animated Ads

I know that the revenue brought in by the advertisers is important but what about the irritating Flash based ads? Is there anything that can be done to remove these ads? The worst thing is that the advertisers make it really difficult to close these floating ads until they are completely animated. They always float into what we read and you also have to wait until they stop animating before you can close them.

Page Takeover Ads

How much more annoying can online advertising be? You just cannot escape from popular page takeover ads like the banner ads that stretch into full- page screens when you point the cursor at them and they would not stop until you move your mouse away.

Minesweeper Ads

Sometimes pointing over the content on a website can be like a game of Minesweeper. You make a one wrong move and then ads frustrate the heck out of you. Reading the article or content becomes an exercise in frustration and futility as these ads pop up every time you mistakenly allow your cursor to move.

Distracting Ads

Have you ever come across those dancing, blinking, irritating and mesmerizing ads? Well, you will find them all over the internet by LowerMyBills.com. Normally, Internet users love to hate such ads. LowerMyBills dancing ads are the most annoying ads ever made. The dancing ads that you see are a celebration of saving money.

Scary Ads

There are some online ads that redirect the user to a page that start installing a scareware program that reports false security threats on the user’s computer. Malicious banner ads on websites like MySpace.com are pushing down some of the most difficult to remove adware or spyware around. The main aspect of these ads is that they do not need interaction from you and websites deliver them very innocently. It will be your bad luck if you come across one of these scary ads.

Infected Ads

This pop-up ad can redirect you to a booby-trapped website where you will find free software which can harm your computer. Always check your security settings when you face such a situation.

Video Ads

These kinds of ads are getting a lot of popularity nowadays. Imagine yourself browsing a website with an online ad about cars and suddenly you see a little fellow walking into the ad and starts selling cars to you. Such ads are bound to distract you and they also hog unnecessary bandwidth.

Tailored Ads

Some ads are tailor made by companies who want to know about your surfing habits so that they can send related advertisements in the form of marketing material to your e-mail addresses. Privacy activists are strictly against these ads and are urging the Federal Trade Commission to create a “Do not Track” policy to avoid the online marketers.

Misguiding Ads

Often you will see advertisements which will display a cross button which you will naturally click to close the ad, but you will immediately find out that it is just an image that takes you to advertisers’ website after you click on it. There are other examples of such ads which will never point out what their actual hidden motive is.

So if you want, you can also add to this annoying list of ads or just leave some comments.

  2. Flash Animated Ads

Yes, you can block flash ads. I use Firefox and I’ve installed a great plugin called flashblock. It wont delete the ad, but it stops the ad from playing. If you want to run the ad, you click the play button that’s displayed inside where the ad would be.

  4. yes, this is a very useful article & thankx for showing up the ad’s format. I’m a Publisher but i never go beyond the Text & image banner ad’s. I too hate Pop-up’s.

Infected ad’s is the Worst thing that is a sham thing for the Publishers. I would suggest users to use Firefox cus Firefox prevents cross site Scripting & never use any JAVA scripts while u r logged in on any sitethey may Steal ur cookies.

  7. I totally agree with your Audible Ads comment.

I was putting the code on my blog for the audio ads (it pay 5 cent per visit), and then decided not to.

I respect my readers more than some cents into my pocket!
