    14/18, woo.

Quiz could use some updates though, 3.0.1 isn’t the version number any longer and “Hello Dolly” really is a song sung by Louis Armstrong, you say so yourself in the answer, so get rid of that option or make it the right one. Just pointing out those two errrrorrrs.

So, I got 16/18 of the answers right, you got 16/18 of the questions right. πŸ˜‰

  27. amistad18 left a comment on December 18, 2010 at 4:36 am |

    To autor, few things:

    What is “Hello Dolly”?
    # A song by Louis Armstrong
    # A plugin that comes with WordPress

Those are radio buttons, not checkbox, so you have to chose one option … but, do you know why this plugin have that name?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Armstrong

“In 1964, he recorded his biggest-selling record, “Hello, Dolly!”. The song went to #1 on the pop chart, making Armstrong (age 63) the oldest person to ever accomplish that feat. In the process, Armstrong dislodged The Beatles from the #1 position they had occupied for 14 consecutive weeks with three different songs.”

What’s the latest release version of WordPress?
    #but when?

When I visit this site, the newest version of WordPress is 3.0.3 πŸ˜‰

Can you choose your password while installing WordPress?
    * Yes, WordPress suggests you some passwords and you can choose one among them.
    * Yes, you can do so after the release of WordPress 3.0

If you can choose a password while instaling WordPress, the first answer will be correct. But, you can type / enter the password in WP 3,0+, not choose, so both answers are wrong.

    What are Permalinks?
    * These are the permanent links for posts and pages
    * These are SEO-friendly URLs generated by WordPress

For posts, pages, categories, tags, archive etc. Ant, it also COULD BE a SEO-friendly URLs generated by WordPress πŸ˜‰

What’s the best way of blacklisting a user from posting comments on your blog?
    * All of the above

The best way? All of above? Block someone nick or email is equal to block IP for you? And if it’s a bot, some that can post a comment eaven if akismet is active?

And ‘the best’, if you start in some competition, and you are the best, you will win a gold medal, but only you, not 10 other peoples.

I made a new category but its not showing up on my blog. What must be the cause?
    * The category has no posts under it

‘must be the cause’, no, it don’t have to be that, but it COULD BE, or, this is the most popular mistake when someone use wp_list_categories() without hide_empty=0 parameter.

If a category doesn’t have any posts in it, it will not show up in the category list.
Can I install any number of plugins in my WordPress?
    * No, plugins are heavy scripts and overload the CPU of your hosting server.

Plugins are heavy scripts and overload the CPU? WTF? Maibe NextGen Gallery or a few others reali big pluggins, but most of them, most of plugins, are just a small function, or few function, not even use on every site, so to overload CPU od server, you really have to install a LOT of pluggins, ant it dependence of type of server, shared hosting, dedicated hosting, and it’s parameters, etc.

The answer is god – becouse it is a limit, but the form of answer is wrong πŸ˜‰

By the way, nice idea for that test, and congratulations for he questions, not all of them are easy πŸ˜‰

    Which wasn’t what you asked.

Thanks for making a cool quiz! I scored 16 out of 18. This question has the wrong answer programmed for true: “Can I install any number of plugins in my WordPress?” The correct answer is “yes”, yes you can . I understand the point that you are making here and completely agree, but at the end of the day, a user can install as many plugins as he or she desires. Whether or not it is a good idea is a completely different question.

  67. Rarst left a comment on August 28, 2010 at 3:09 am |

    16/18

I picked “SEO-friendly” answer on permalinks. Archives (categories, tags, dates) have permalinks as well, not only posts and pages. Also non-permalink URLs are kinda permanent as well. Actually they are more permanent because slug can be easily changed, but things like post ID not.

And answered wrong on plugins. I second that one being too much of blanket statement. It’s not quantity of plugins that matters for performance, it is specifics of each plugin.

Blog with hundred of plugins can perform better than blog with ten.

    • Rarst left a comment on August 28, 2010 at 3:12 am |

Actually, scratch that on permalinks. I mixed up terms in my head. “Ugly” URLs with IDs are called permalinks as well.

Can you really make a blanket statement that most plugins “create a lot of load on CPU and may crash your site if used excessively”? I don’t doubt that a lot of plugins are poorly written, cause unnecessary database queries, load on EVERY page when you just need it on one, etc.

Slug – is incorrect, sort of…. In the WP admin – slug is referred to in both Category and Tag (admin pages) – but when you review any post – the url is directly referred to as the permalink. Only in the quick edit box is that link referred to as the slug… so the slug would have to be pages/categories/and tags – but not just “Search Engine friendly version of the post title”

Also I agree @Svilen Popov, your “Plugin” answer is subjective and not the logical answer of the question “Can I install any number of plugins in my WordPress?”… but I agree that many plugins are heavy and that too many plugins will deteriorate a blogs performance. Go tell Joost or WooThemes that the plugins they write are worthless… πŸ™‚

    • Jai left a comment on August 27, 2010 at 8:13 am |

Buddy, there should not be any argument over the meaning of Slug. You should read the definition for the word slug in WordPress’ official glossary here :- http://codex.wordpress.org/Glossary#Slug

Secondly, many plugins will definitely deteriorate performance. Been there, done that. And yea, Joost or Woothemes are not Gods πŸ™‚ They do and have made mistakes in the past. So. lets not go there.
