Its been a very long time that I released any free theme on Blog Oh! Blog. On the eve of Christmas and the approaching New Year, I am glad to launch our very new Free WordPress Theme – Avante. The theme has a modern design, nifty photo effects, sleek typography and suitable to use for any kind of website. It comes with a pre-configured home page enabled to pull posts from six different categories.
The sidebar is widgetized and features a tabbed section that shows your most popular (done through a plugin) and latest posts. The theme also comes with a back-end Theme Options section where you can configure and manage the theme according to your own taste.

Plugins Required
- Lazy Load Plugin (Smoothly preloads all your images)
- Popular Posts (To show the most popular posts in the sidebar)
Instructions for Usage
- Download the Avante theme zip file and install it on your WordPress website.
- Download the Plugins that are required to run the theme smoothly and install them.
- For the Slider, just configure the slider category and number of slides under the Wp-admin -> Appearance -> Theme Options. Make sure you upload your images as the Featured Image for each slide.
- Make two new pages named “Home” and “Blog”. Choose the Home template as your page template when you make the “Home” page. Go to Wp-admin -> Settings -> Reading and configure your site to use a static front page. Point your Front Page to “Home” and Posts Page to “Blog”.
- Configure the different categories for the home template through the Wp-admin -> Appearance -> Theme Options
- For the Navigation Menu, go to Wp-admin -> Appearance -> Menus and make a new menu. Configure it to the location “Home Menu” under Manage Locations.
- There are other options that you set up in the Theme Options.

Hello and thank you for this great theme. I’m helping a family member build their blog and they wanted me to change a few things but wasn’t sure how.
1. move the article title box to the lower left corner of the streaming pix
2. remove the category tab from the article pictures on main page
How can I do this?
How do I replace the post blocks on the static front page by a blog roll whilst maintaining the slider? I find the post blocks not exactly practical. Thank you very much!

Only can’t get the slider to work, added a category name in Appearance > Theme options > Slider but it just doesn’t work. Both posts in that category have a featured image. What to do?

Have you setup your front page as static and assigned the home template for the home page ?

Only now the frontpage actually is not the homepage but only a page called ‘home’, typical WordPress trickery that keeps confusing me even after years. When clicking on the logo I go to the actual homepage without slider. :’)
Hi, the Lazy Load Plugin seems to be outdated. Is there another plugin that works similar you can recommend instead?

Hi, I’ve installed this great looking theme. Just one question. I see in the live demo the images in the slider are hyperlinked, but I don’t see an easy way to do this in wordpress. Could someone let me know how it’s done?
For a free WP theme it looks very nice, from your premium themes Big News it is the best.

I am trying to create a template page, bu the only options I have is default and home. How do I get a page template?

i have problems with the slider , it does not work. Do i have to set something at HOME – Custom Fields ? , At which site should i set the featured picture ? And how i can set this side for my slider. Sorry for my questions … , could you write me a small tutorial , how to do it … !?

Just go to appearance -> theme options and set the category for the slider posts. In those posts, make sure you put a featured image.

Open footer.php and replace this

Adjust the 500 to what you want.
Love this theme. I’m putting a blog together for our graduating class of 1964. We want the grads to connect for some special activities this year.
I would like to give each person a tag where they can be connected with quickly and see photos submitted and read their posts.
Can this be done easily on Advante?

You will have to make a list of the author names and links to their author profiles. It can be done but you need to code for such a custom functionality. Contact me if you want this done.
