WordPress Theme – Digital Statement
Following the footsteps of the much successful theme Statement, comes another free WordPress theme from Blog Oh! Blog called – “Digital Statement”. This can also be called as Version 2.0 of the Statement theme because it takes all the code and converts it into a modern, more visually appealing, and with better functionality.
This version of the theme has been created by the owner of Neowster.com who gladly gave it to me for a free public release. With neat stuff like featured posts’ slide show, a nice navigation (for both pages/sub-pages and categories), content tabs, Twitter posts, site navigation, this theme is a winner 
How to set up Digital Statement?
This theme makes use of plugins and custom scripts that have to be installed before you start using this theme. Here are the steps that will help you set up the theme properly :-
- When you download and extract the theme’s zip file, you will see a plugins folder along with the theme. Install and activate all plugins in the package to your wp-content/plugins directory.
- To setup twitter, go to http://twitter.com/badges/html, copy the javascript to the footer.php file in the theme folder, replacing lines 58 – 59
- This theme has a featured component (top right) which can pull posts and display them as a neat slide show along with corresponding images (done through custom fields). The posts are pulled from a particular category which can be specified in the gallery.php file of the theme. Open gallery.php file and change the category ID (cat=) in line 14 :-
<?php query_posts('showposts=5&cat=2');?>For the slide show images, you will have to make a custom field with each post in the category with the key => “gallery_image” and value will be the upload path of the image.
Get more information here. Also, remember that you will at least need two minimum posts (with custom field set) before the slide show will work properly.
- This theme also features a login box sliding panel on the top. For the login box to appear in the panel, you need to go to Admin > Settings > Membership > and check the “Anyone can register”.
- For the thumbnail images next to the posts on the index.php file, you will have to create a custom field called “Image” with every post.
- In order to display the “About” section on the right sidebar, your admin email will need to be associated with gravatar, and you will need to fill up the “Biographical Info” in the Admin > Users section.
- Finally, setup flickrRSS (a plugin is used to accomplish this) to link to your Flickr account. Set it to display 10 square images from Flickr.com. For the 11th image, it is a custom setup which you can edit in footer.php on line 16.
This theme has been tested on WordPress 2.6, Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox without any problems. (As a tribute to Obama being the new American President, I have used his photos for the theme testing. If you don’t like him, please don’t feel offended He is the new president after all…)

Hi. I’m currently translating your theme to Swedish and ran into problems with the twitter update badge. The page you reffer to above does not exist anymore. Twitter have on top of that changed the authentication process for web applications.
Do you have sugggestions on solutions for this.

To a lesser extent I cannot seem to get the slideshow working. Despite following instructions.
However this is a brilliant theme! Just would be nice to have these glitches fixed. Especially the first one.
Finally it’s finished: My own customization of this great them. I rewrote it to a 2 column structure with a extra large content layer, deleted the tabs and the slideshow and erased all the twitter stuff. Mayor speed-ups guys!
Also I’ve done some typographical changes to serife fonts.

When I read the “how to” for the images next to posts, and the comments themselves, I find myself confused even more than I used to. The reason is that you mention that I must specify a custom FIELD. I don’t know what you talking about when you said that.
The other problem is that knowing where to put http://www.website.com/image in?

The theme is great but it have a big problem with sub-categories, if you have any then all the content goes to the right to show. Please make some kind of drop menu for subcategories

I’m not able to get this theme to look good at all. It doesn’t look anything like the demo. The sidebar shows below the latest posts and latest posts are moved all the way to the right. I’ve enabled all the plugins and configured them, but alas, it doesn’t work. It looks like a nice theme, but I’m going to assume it doesn’t work with the latest stable wordpress release.
Nice theme, but as others themes of you it’s not support localization, with that is better to traduce it.

fantastic theme but i’m having issues with this theme. the category links that run along the top are broken. they were working but now when you click the link it goes to an empty page. no error code.. nothing! does anyone know how to fix this please?

I found the reason myself. The field where is breadcrumb set is too short. You need to find in .css properties of id “browse” and change width to 730px and then find id “rss” and change width to 180px.
Now long titles doesn’t break your blog’s header.

I noticed problem with long titles of posts and top black menu. Anybody have found the reason of that? For example here http://zamaanonline.com/dr-zak.....-ndtv-3251 . (look at the “Home” and “Contact” and then check how is it at the main page) At my website I have similar problem.

i put lightbox and put there js code in to header.php just above the tag and the php code above it.
now the slide show built in to the theme is not working. but lightbox is working. i tried changing the code postions with in haed tag, the result is same.

Nice layout idea, but it seems to break on Firefox. I’ve looked at it in both Windows and Ubuntu versions of Firefox – with the same results: the right-hand column images are WAY too big – overflowing the frame of the sidebar both to the right, and out the bottom.

The theme experiences serious layout problems… The creator pls. update the code and work around… Not all pages get messed up but many(most) pages.. The sidebar is pushed down… Also it’ll be better the thumb nail resizer resizes any image on post and not only those direct wordpress uploads.. A similar resizer is available for blogger may be I’ll send those urls if u r interested.. That worked fine when my blog was hosted on blogger…

that has a screen shot of how the Flickr RSS set up screen should be completed, including before html and after html, and how to find your Flickr account number for your id.

As said by many people, its a good theme no doubt about that. Just want to ask one question, I saw that if I disable flickrRSS plugin featured section and footer region gets affected. Is there any way to prevent that. I dont wanna keep flickr images there on my blog. Please spare some time to help me out.
I download Digitalstatement template, but there is no Plugins folder in it. upload plugins folder again or provide list of those plugins.

how to display an image on every article at first page
Ohhhh – I just love this theme – but I think it looks quite difficult in installing it. Still considering it.
Currently I’m using Firebug-theme by Blog Oh Blog – but will it give me any problems in trying to install this theme and still be able to switch back (without any problems) to the old one which I have made som modifications to.
I really don’t wanna loose all my posting etc. Can I switch back and forth when ever I want?
And does all the plug-ins enterrupt the old theme?

Am just starting out with WordPress and have really limited experience with php so apologies if this is obvious but I would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.
I intend to have multiple authors and I’m assuming that the author details for each post would appear on the post page in the author_box div. Ideally it would also display the last posting author on the home page.
If I insert the about_box div into the loop in index.php it displays the correct author for the post so I know the function works. However if the div is in the sidebar, as it is in the template, it displays one author’s details for all pages.

Yes, you can, I have done it. You need to edit it in footer.php, and then read the code line by line, and edit parts you don’t want, to something you want.

I’m using 2.7 and everything seems to be working as it should in FF but having some issues with IE(using 7) AND since most of our patrons are still using IE (go figure) I need to make some tweaks. The auto post menu under the main navigation are not lining up but stepping down … any clues on how to fix this?

I’m having one very big issue. the “Title Tags” are not working with All-In-One Seo, I know its the template because when I switch to the original “Kubrick” theme the page titles display, when I go to the Digital Statement theme every page just shows my blogs name.

You put the full url in the value box. Make sure the word ‘Image’ has a capital “I” or it won’t work.

This theme has been heavily modified and the plugin was setup for the Kubrick theme. I believe this would be a great benefit if a “Facebook Connect Button” was in the comments section so facebook users could log in as themselves.
However once installed no buttons occur because of template changes. Any suggestions?

I like this theme and the slideshow feature but I was hoping their was a way to turn off the requirement of showing an image. There are times I want to post something that doesn’t have an image and it seems that the placeholder is still there.

I see the thumbnails in the index but when I select a category page the thumbnails it doesn´t appear.

I’ve been using this theme for about a month now, and all of a sudden the sidebar broke today. I don’t *think* I did anything to it. It stopped pulling all the images into the slick slideshow. Now it just overlaps all the images above and below the rest of the sidebar content.
In addition, the pulldown at the top, the one where you either log in or click to go to the Dashboard, stopped working, too. Now it just shows the contents, no pull-tab.
Ideas? Suggestions?

Tagaroo plugin searches flickr images according to your tags to find relevant images for your posts.
I love the layout, I’m using it on my blog. I just wanted to let you know though, that an important core function is missing and causes several plugins to not work. You are missing the wp_footer() function in the footer.php file. My stats stopped working when I switched to this theme. I’ve read that this missing function causes several different plugins to not work.
Just a head’s up.
so, adding the wp_footer() in the footer.php somewhere will fix the stats?

Ooops, I must be blind. I found it in the stylesheet for the theme. If anyone else has the same questions just edit the dimensions in the the stylesheet for .custom_image

Hey, it’s work on WP 2.7 release! BTW, I am going to translate this template to Bahasa Melayu (ms_MY). Love the featured post and trying to make the themes load faster and smoother.
Also I noticed that the featured post will ‘splash’ the HTML code before it come to works.
Another Problem: I was using “statement” before digital statement, this new theme (for me) wont display the title on individual post pages like it used to in statement, digital statement is doing something to prevent this, I tried switching back to statement and wha la, the story titles are displayed on top of the browser like they should be, then switched back to digital statement and the same thing, it just displays the same site description on all pages as the title, I cant help but notice that you dont have this problem here……….. any suggestions?…….. I even tried using the all in one seo plugin to no avail….. any ideas?

Great theme! I have used it and modified it here http://couchavenue.com/ however I am having a problem with the “Author” tag where when you go click on a post, the About the Author disappears and so does the picture. I only have one user on this wordpress blog is there something wrong or something I can fix?
Also the commenting is a bit ugly where the smileys mess things up.

I can’t get mine to do whatever it’s supposed to. Can we disable this feature and just show 10 images?

Can we disable the twitter box entirely?
Editing the file has been a problem and I prefer TwitterTools because it doesn’t publish @ replies.

Hi. I can’t get the flickrrss to work either. Have put in my group pool id and still see a picture of a lady at the bottom of the screen (not my photo).
Also, it says twitter updates at the very bottom left of my page – i guess i’ve mucked something up there?

Is this theme compatible with WP 2.7? I had some issues related to plugins you integrated in the theme in WP 2.7

Actually, a good alternative (for just a featured slideshow as used in most themes) could be the Agile Carousel for Jquery. In a WP theme I would choose that over Smoothgallery, just because it runs on jQuery and does the job well.

It’s a shame that there isn’t a jQuery alternative to JonDesign’s Smoothgallery, which utilizes the mootools library.
Javascript libraries do tend to conflict, so I personally always try to avoid loading both the jQuery and the Mootools library. WP developers have choosen to use jQuery for WP.
For me, in principle (!) that rules out the use of another library, and unfortunately there are so many (jQuery, Mootools, Dojo, YUI, Prototype etc.)
What are your thoughts on this?
Note: recently an attempt has been made to create a jQuery version for Smoothgallery (s3slider: http://www.serie3.info/s3slider/), but it’s quite buggy, not very well coded and doesn’t do well in FF. Anyone challenged to enhance that, I am sure you will make loads of jQuery friends!

The only thing i’m having trouble with is the Featured Post.
I can not get this to work for the life of me.
I have created several posts with Image in Custom fields, but still nothing.
I’ve seen through the comments and had a look at some websites where this theme is used and they have gotten it to work, so i’m wondering what im doing wrong.
Do you have ANY idea what so ever that might cause this thing to fail?
Like some sort of settings i have set up wrongfully or something?

Ok mate i have manage to work on it to make it to RTL.
but i have some troubles:
1. the top bar (with the red arrow) i don’t see the arrow.
2. the navigation links on the top also disappear.
3. the footer is looking broken, i mean that the bottom is half black half gray why?

@Ashish:- The ‘set’ option is not mandatory. All you will need to fill is your ID number which can be derived using the idGettr link in the settings.
Also, you should specify the following in the second option :-
‘user’ items using ’10′ ‘square’ images.
In FlikrRss plugin options, wat should be filled in the feild “Set”? Is it mandatory?

@Edy Pang:- You should first install the flickrrss.php plugin that’s included with the theme. Then you go to the wp-admin -> settings -> Flickr RSS and set your options there.

@Jai:- Ok this is weird but its working now! I had 4 actually with the image links in custom field. i just put another that was a newer post and now it works. It seems that the 2 posts have to be within the top 5 to work?
@michelle:- You should have at least two posts with images in the custom fields for the featured slideshow to work properly. I already mentioned this point in the post.
I have been trying to get the featured posts section to function, However, it doesn’t seem to want to work right. Everything but the image appears right. It looks as if the image loads but then it disappears and it becomes blank/white like its not positioned correctly. Any ideas? Also in ie within the single post page its not functioning at all? can you help?

Hey, nice work on the theme. I do have one problem though; a plugin called FLIR need the wp_footer function to be called. But when i add that to my footer.php it messes up the tabber thing in the sidebar!

Have already made the switch…really like this theme. I have noticed that my normal blog stats are no longer working…any ideas why or does this theme not work with wordpress stats?

Hmmm… It looks very good but I don’t see it as Statement successor. Statement main area has blocky looks that create borders naturally – strong part of its appeal to me. And high-contrast between areas which DigiStatement lost by expanding color scheme.
Ideal update to Statement in my opinion would be remaking header and footer areas without touching the middle. I am having such updates custom designed for me… If it ends up good I’ll consider pitching it to you for free release.
